At present, Beijing Chinese Language school offers 14 courses in Chinese language, and additional elective courses in Chinese culture. Each of the one-year language programs is at least 800 class hours per year; the elective courses in Chinese culture are at least 80 class hours per year. The school also organizes frequent tours and special sessions to enhance an understanding of Chinese history and culture.
After registration, each student will take an entry test to assure proper placement according to his or her ability level; elementary, intermediate, or advanced. At the end of the semester, all students will be required to take Examinations for completion of the courses and to take an exit test, the HSK (the official Chinese Language Proficiency Test).
At graduation, certificates of completion
and diplomas will be issued to all students who have
passed the above examinations along with an official
HSK certificate specifying the level of language achievement.
1. Elementary Level of Chinese Language Study
Main Courses: Intensive Reading in Chinese, Extensive Reading in Chinese, Chinese speaking and Listening Comprehension, Writing of Chinese Characters.
Students will master 2,411 common Chinese words (written and spoken) and 185 basic Chinese grammar items. Students will carry on simple conversations in Chinese. Students will read and write simple sentences in Chinese.
2. Intermediate level of Chinese Language Study
Main Courses: Modern Chinese, Chinese composition, Listening Comprehension, Chinese Conversation, Reading of Selected Newspaper and Magazine Articles, Watching, Listening and Speaking, Commercial Chinese.
Students will master 2,850 Chinese words
(written and spoken). Students will master about 8 Chinese
grammar items of intermediate level. Students will converse
fluently in Chinese.
3. Advanced Chinese Language Study
Main Courses: Modern Chinese, Advanced Chinese Composition, Reading of Selected Newspaper and Magazine Articles, Advanced Cultural Knowledge, Advanced Commercial Chinese, Chinese Grammar.
Students will master about 2,800 Chinese words and about 100 Chinese grammar items of advanced level. Students will understand basic theories of Chinese language and essential cultural background. Students will qualify as Chinese language secretaries, Chinese translators and teachers of Chinese language.
4. Specialized Courses, Lectures, and Presentations
in Chinese
Culture Specialized courses include Traditional
Chinese Painting, Chinese calligraphy, Wu Shu (Chinese
Martial Arts), Chinese Music and Dance, Chinese Language
Computer Programs.
Lectures may be presented on such subjects
as Chinese
Opera, Chinese History, and Chinese Geography
Presentations on other Chinese subjects of
interest may also be scheduled.
