OTTAWA -- Bishops University Jordan Heather was named Quebec conference
player of the year Tuesday to become the first nominee for the Hec
Crighton Trophy, presented annually to the most outstanding player in
CIS football.
Heather, a fifth-year history major from Oromocto, N.B., established a
single-season Canadian Interuniversity Sport record with 3,132 passing
yards in eight games. He also set a (RSEQ) conference record with 20
touchdown passes.
Hes the first Bishops player to claim the Jeff Russell Trophy since
running back Jamall Lee in 2007.
The Quebec conference unveiled its annual awards Tuesday. The other
conferences are set to name their award winners Thursday.
Other RSEQ winners include Montreal linebackers Antoine Pruneau
(defensive MVP) and Alex Cromer-Emond (rookie of the year) and Kevin
Mackey of Bishops (coach of the year). McGill offensive tackle Laurent
Duvernay-Tardif won for outstanding down lineman and took the Russ
Jackson Award for football, academics and community service.
The CIS individual awards will be presented Nov. 21 in Quebec City.
